Baseball Recap: Union Catholic Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Union Catholic lost to Westfield back in May of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Vikings walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Blue Devils. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Ryan Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on ten hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Anderson, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chris Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Union Catholic's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.

Union Catholic and Westfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Vikings will challenge Summit at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (82 vs. 216). Meanwhile, Westfield (ranked 16th) will meet Scotch Plains-Fanwood (ranked 70th) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
