Basketball Recap: Winston Red Birds vs. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers
The Winston Red Birds lost against the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Winston was the victim of a rough 51-30 loss at the hands of the Panthers. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Winston in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris found their leader in underclassman Kinsley Allnutt, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals. Allnutt hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Molly Milazzo, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Winston dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.8 points per game. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winston will take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th.
