Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 59-43 fall against the Macomb Bombers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Bombers are ranked 126th).

When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, don't look at Maddy Gibbs. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Gibbs has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler John, who put up ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Macomb, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Liberty has already played their next match, a 40-24 win against Pleasant Hill/Western on the 10th. As for Macomb, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-49 victory against Illini West on the 10th.
