Kiley Best commands the offense for Cougars win

Recap: South Decatur Cougars vs. Trinity Lutheran Cougars

The South Decatur Cougars had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They snuck past Trinity Lutheran with a 50-45 victory. For South Decatur, this counts as revenge for the 81-49 defeat Trinity Lutheran walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

South Decatur's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiley Best, who scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Best has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Molly Eden, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds.

Trinity Lutheran's loss came despite strong showings from Bailey Bonde and Jordan Brewer. Bonde scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Brewer scored 14 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Bonde pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marley Warren, who scored six points along with two steals.

South Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Trinity Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

South Decatur will head out on the road to take on Batesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Batesville will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Trinity Lutheran will take on Greenwood Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenwood Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 364th, while Trinity Lutheran is ranked 164th).
