Softball Game Preview: Newbury Park Panthers vs. Buena Bulldogs

The Newbury Park Panthers will challenge the Buena Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Newbury Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Newbury Park will bounce into Monday's match after beating Westlake, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Warriors on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Krista Danklefs looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Riley Richardson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Janessa Gutierrez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Buena came up short against San Marcos on Friday, falling 10-4. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Royals recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Newbury Park pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Buena, their loss dropped their record down to 8-16.

Newbury Park was able to grind out a solid win over Buena in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 5-2. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
