Alexis McKinstry (2029) made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Sardich (2029), who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Audrina Jablonski (2029), who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Southeast didn't have quite enough to beat United on Saturday and fell 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.
Like Cardinal Mooney, Southeast also got a great game from a two-way player: Savannah Powell. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Powell has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kirsten Harvey made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Neena Truex was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Cardinal Mooney pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Southeast, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-9.
Cardinal Mooney got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Southeast by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
