Basketball Recap: Avary Monroe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mesick over Baldwin

After flying high against Walkerville last Friday, Mesick came back down to earth. The contest between the Mesick Bulldogs and the Baldwin Panthers didn't end well, with the Mesick Bulldogs falling 45-30. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 39-34 back in January.

Mesick lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Avary Monroe, who posted five points and 13 boards. She has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madi Putney, who scored 11 points.

Even though they lost, Mesick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Mesick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. Baldwin pushed their record up to 7-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, Mesick and Baldwin will both be playing Cadillac Heritage Christian the next time they take the court. Mesick will host Cadillac Heritage Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Baldwin will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
