Basketball Game Preview: Gretna Dragons vs. Waverly Vikings

The Gretna Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Waverly Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Gretna is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They managed a 58-53 win over Elkhorn North on Saturday.

Gretna found their leader in sophomore Ava Mcartor, who posted 23 points. Those 23 points gave Mcartor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Megan Marshall, who had 13 points.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Waverly on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Ashland-Greenwood out of the water with a 68-14 final score. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 23 points or more this season.

Waverly's win came from a few key players Gretna will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Annie Harms, who put up 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Mcintire, who posted 11 points.

The victory (which was Waverly's third in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Gretna, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.

Gretna was dealt a bruising 68-40 defeat at the hands of Waverly when the teams last played last Saturday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Waverly's Parker Christiansen, who earned 28 points. Now that Gretna knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
