Baseball Recap: Midlothian Comes Up Short

If Midlothian was riding high fresh off their 20-0 takedown of Richmond High School for the Arts last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the Powhatan Indians by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last seven times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Midlothian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Hillsman, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Midlothian dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Powhatan, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-1 record this season.

Midlothian and Powhatan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Trojans will challenge Cosby at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (173 vs. 19). Meanwhile, Powhatan (ranked 68th) will meet James River Midlothian (ranked 20th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
