Softball Recap: El Monte Sets Scoring Season-High Against Marshall

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask El Monte). They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Marshall Eagles on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Victoria Valdez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Naima Rodriguez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Julissa Flores, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

El Monte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

El Monte's record now sits at 11-7. As for Marshall, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.
