The Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Flatirons Academy Bison at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Haxtun is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Haxtun is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Yuma, sneaking past 8-6.
Kanin Koberstein made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Colin Cone looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Grant Statz and Ryland Wolff did most of the damage at the plate: Statz scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Wolff scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits Wolff has posted since back in April of 2024. Carter Lock was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Haxtun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yuma only posted an OBP of .314.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Flatirons Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Lyons on Thursday as they made off with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bison, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Mateo Pope and Caleb Doughty made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Pope struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Doughty pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Pope scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Doughty went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Noah Evans was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Parker Wilson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Flatirons Academy pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Haxtun, their record is now 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Haxtun has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Haxtun took their victory against Flatirons Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 19-7 score. Do the Fightin' Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
