Baseball Recap: Grandview Extends Winning Streak to Three

Grandview proved they can win big last Friday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Maypearl Panthers, sneaking past 6-4. This was payback for the Zebras, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Owen Moore made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Grandview's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Moore was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Slinkard, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

The victory (which was Grandview's third in a row) raised their record to 7-12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Maypearl, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-4.

Grandview will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
