Baseball Game Preview: Olympia Spartans vs. Monticello Sages

The Olympia Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Monticello Sages at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Olympia's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Prairie Central 13-0. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Hawks on their field since April 25, 2019.

Meanwhile, Monticello was able to grind out a solid victory over Rantoul on Thursday, taking the game 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Sages in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

Monticello's victory was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Olympia, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-14.

Olympia suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Monticello in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
