Softball Recap: Northampton Yellowjackets vs. Chincoteague Ponies

Northampton extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They lost 18-2 to the Chincoteague Ponies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ponies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 last Tuesday.

Ryleigh Caison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Chincoteague, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.

On Chincoteague's side, Caitlyn McPherson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). McPherson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Carmela Rosanova was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Meredith Wright was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Northampton will be playing at home against Arcadia at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
