Football Game Preview: Brookfield East Spartans vs. Brookfield Central Lancers

Brookfield East is 2-8 against Brookfield Central since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. Brookfield East's defense has only allowed 15 points per game this season, so Brookfield Central's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Brookfield East is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wisconsin's top teams: Muskego, who was ranked second at the time (Brookfield East was ranked 18th). The Spartans lost 21-0 to the Warriors on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.

They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 27-24 win over Germantown on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted against the Warhawks since September 1, 2017.

Brookfield Central's win came from a few key players Brookfield East will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was AJ Seymour, who threw for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 59 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Brookfield Central's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Rece Hopfensperger was another key player, picking up 71 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Brookfield East's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Brookfield Central, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4.
