Softball Recap: Sunlake Beats Auburn Riverside for Their Third Straight Victory

Sunlake got themselves on the board against Auburn Riverside on Thursday, but Auburn Riverside never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Ravens. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Zoey Cropper was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Sydney Walker looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kaylee Lively and Emily Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Lively scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Ward went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave Ward a new career-high.

Sunlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn Riverside only posted a batting average of .087.

The win (which was Sunlake's third in a row) raised their record to 13-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Auburn Riverside, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-4.

Sunlake didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Lecanto on the 11th. As for Auburn Riverside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Rainier at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ravens' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
