Recap: Evangel Christian Lightning vs. Edgewood Academy Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Evangel Christian Lightning unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Edgewood Academy, falling 55-22. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Evangel Christian has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Evangel Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hannah Benson. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.
Edgewood Academy had a senior duo take command as Lindsey Brown scored 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds and Madison Martin scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Edgewood Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Avery White, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Evangel Christian's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Edgewood Academy, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will take on Southern Christian at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Southern Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday. As for Edgewood Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Evangel Christian at 6:00 p.m. Evangel Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
