Baseball Recap: Midland Comes Up Short

Midland came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn Rockets by a score of 18-16 on Monday. The Timberwolves haven't had much luck with the Rockets recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Gabe Pyles was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Midland: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Lord, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Midland's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-9.

While Midland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
