COLUMBUS, Texas -
Sealy (Texas) kept up a steady attack all game long to upset
Columbus (Texas), 35-7, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Holten Einkauf touchdown pass to
Tyler Eckhardt in the second quarter, the Tigers were up 21-7 at the half.
Sealy grew its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. SHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown pass by Einkauf to Eckhardt.
The final outcome was shocking, as the Tigers was ranked No. 474 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Texas, far below Columbus' spot at No. 225.
Columbus' only touchdown came on a 44-yard pass from undefined to
Caelan Neuendorff in the first quarter.
Sealy entered the contest giving up 22.0 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Columbus well below its season average of 26.1 points scored per game.
The Tigers also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 54-34.
The loss comes after Columbus defeated Needville 21-10 last week.
Columbus (5-3) will play a 3A Region IV District 25 game against El Campo next week, while Sealy (5-3) will take on El Campo also in a 3A Region IV District 25 game.
