Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Owls vs. Hannibal Pirates

The Marshall Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Hannibal Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Marshall is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

Marshall lost 17-2 to Kirksville on Tuesday.

Logan Kirchhoff was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hannibal, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Fulton 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hannibal secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Cooper Scott, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Hannibal has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Marshall couldn't quite finish off Hannibal when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
