Softball Recap: Hylton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Hylton entered their tilt with Freedom on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Eagles 17-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 back in March.

Alanis Layne made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Alexandra Newton was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Ajani Freeman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Hylton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Hylton pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Freedom, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Hylton will take on Massaponax at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Freedom, they will face off against Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
