Football Recap: Deckerville Eagles vs. Kingston Cardinals

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Deckerville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by the Kingston Cardinals to the tune of 40-6. Considering the Eagles have won nine contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Deckerville had a senior duo take command as Hunter Garza rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries and Parker Merriman gained 125 total yards and two touchdowns. Garza has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Deckerville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in 11 consecutive games.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Deckerville's defense and their four sacks. Trenten Park was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Deckerville pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.6 points. As for Kingston, they moved to 8-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Deckerville will play host again on Saturday to welcome Mendon, where kickoff is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Deckerville's defense has only allowed 14.9 points per game this season, so Mendon's offense will have their work cut out for them. Kingston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
