Baseball Recap: Great Bridge Takes Down Ranked Cox

Great Bridge faced Cox in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past the Falcons 13-3. Considering the Wildcats have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jason Miller looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Casey Cuddyer was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Colt Reynolds also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Great Bridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Great Bridge is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Cox, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-3.

Looking ahead, Great Bridge will look to defend their home field on Monday against Deep Creek at 5:45 p.m. The Wildcats are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Cox, they will square off against Tallwood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
