Football Game Preview: Cornerstone Christian Eagles vs. Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder

Cornerstone Christian hasn't had much luck against Jacksonville Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Thunder at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Cornerstone Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Alabama School for the Deaf, who was ranked 20th at the time (Cornerstone Christian was ranked 15th). The Eagles were the clear victors by a 55-32 margin over the Silent Warriors on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three contests by 22 points or more so far this season.

Jess Nelson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 144 yards and four scores, while also throwing for 75 yards and one TD. He has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Colby Harrison, who gained 152 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cornerstone Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 280 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 194 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville Christian Academy gave up the first points last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Tabernacle with a sharp 54-28 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Thunder just coasted through the last quarter.

Cornerstone Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.4 points over those games. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, their record is now 6-3.

Cornerstone Christian came up short against Jacksonville Christian Academy in their previous meeting last Friday, falling 46-41. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
