Baseball Recap: Lake Central Wins Going Away Against Chesterton

Lake Central was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Chesterton Trojans. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Luke O'Keefe tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Hein, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Victor Villegas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Lake Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chesterton only posted an OBP of .344.

The victory made it two in a row for Lake Central and bumps their season record up to 13-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Chesterton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Central will take on Munster at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chesterton, they will face off against Hobart at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
