Baseball Recap: Odessa Victorious

After losing to Milford the last time they met, Odessa decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Ducks had just enough and edged out the Buccaneers 3-2 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ducks.

Dylan Schimpf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Odessa let Spencer Flayhart and Gunner Whitehead run wild. Flayhart went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Whitehead went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Flayhart has become a key player for Odessa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. Owen Mease also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Odessa now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Milford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Odessa will square off against St. Georges Tech at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Milford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
