Preview: Ponca City Wildcats vs. Putnam City West Patriots
The Ponca City Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Putnam City West Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Ponca City is ranked 93rd, while Putnam City West is ranked 88th).
Ponca City unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 48-13 loss at the hands of Choctaw. Ponca City has struggled against Choctaw recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though Putnam City West has not done well against Booker T. Washington recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Putnam City West came out on top against Booker T. Washington by a score of 34-23. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Putnam City West.
Putnam City West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dujuan Knight, who rushed for 119 yards, and also picked up 89 receiving yards. Knight was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyheim Johnson, who rushed for 21 yards and two touchdowns.
Choctaw's victory bumped their season record to 7-1 while Ponca City's defeat dropped theirs to 5-5.
Everything came up roses for Ponca City against Putnam City West when the teams last played back in October of 2021 as the team secured a 43-6 win. Will Ponca City repeat their success, or does Putnam City West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
