Baseball Game Preview: Big Sandy Wildcats vs. Cumby Trojans

The Big Sandy Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Cumby Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Big Sandy took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Alba-Golden, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Big Sandy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Orms, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another was Carson Henkle, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Cumby came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Owls.

Channing Herman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Cumby is 3-1 when Herman posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-13 otherwise.

Big Sandy's record now sits at 6-9. As for Cumby, their record is now 6-14.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Big Sandy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Cumby struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
