Versailles waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They had just enough and edged out the Marion Local Flyers 3-1. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chase Monnin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Versailles saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Subler, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Versailles pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Marion Local, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

Versailles and Marion Local should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Tigers will challenge Mississinawa Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (83 vs. 675). Meanwhile, Marion Local (ranked 142nd) will meet National Trail (ranked 612th) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
