Basketball Game Preview: Azle Hornets vs. Saginaw Rough Riders

The Azle Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Saginaw Rough Riders at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Azle and five for Saginaw.

Last Friday, Azle was beaten by Fossil Ridge 75-37. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 919th, while the Panthers are ranked 78th).

Meanwhile, Saginaw came up short against Granbury on Friday and fell 39-26.

Azle will have to keep a close watch on Jazmine Duncan and Iliza Mazimpaka, a pair of players who had a big impact on Saginaw's prior game. Duncan almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds, while Mazimpaka posted five points. Duncan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Azle's record now sits at 6-21. As for Saginaw, their record now sits at 12-14.

Azle barely slipped by Saginaw when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 30-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Azle since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
