Baseball Game Preview: Guilderland Flying Dutchmen vs. Columbia Blue Devils

The Guilderland Flying Dutchmen will head out to face off against the Columbia Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Guilderland is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Guilderland managed to slip by Ballston Spa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Flying Dutchmen lost 19-5 to the Scotties on Thursday.

Guilderland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Balleau, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia). Everything went their way against Troy on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-1 victory. The Blue Devils not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3, 2024 (when they won 20-5).

Joseph Miller looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Mocerine, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Aidan Hulett also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Columbia and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Guilderland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Guilderland couldn't quite finish off Columbia in their previous meeting back in April and fell 8-6. Can the Flying Dutchmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
