Basketball Game Preview: Moundridge Wildcats vs. Bennington Bulldogs

Two dominant guards in Cammi Unruh and Rori Miles are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After both having extra time off, the Moundridge Wildcats and the Bennington Bulldogs will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moundridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Moundridge challenged Sedgwick two weeks ago. Moundridge really took it to Sedgwick for the full four quarters, racking up an 82-38 win. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 44 points or more this season.

Unruh and Hattie Hecox were among the main playmakers for Moundridge as the former went 7 for 12 on her way to 20 points and five steals and the latter went 6 of 9 on her way to 17 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Unruh is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackie Conkling, who posted ten points.

Moundridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Bennington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 39-36 victory over the Broncos. The 39-point effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Bennington pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Moundridge, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-1.

Moundridge beat Bennington 54-47 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Moundridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
