Baseball Game Preview: William Penn Bearcats vs. Hanover Nighthawks

The William Penn Bearcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Hanover Nighthawks at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. William Penn has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between William Penn and South Western, and South Western kept the tradition alive. The Bearcats came up short against the Mustangs on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The Bearcats have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

William Penn saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Gonzalez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run. That triple was Gonzalez's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Hanover got themselves on the board against Columbia on Thursday, but Columbia never followed suit. They came out on top against the Crimson Tide by a score of 4-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Nighthawks.

Not much got past Chase Foreman, who gave up just a hit to keep Columbia off the board.

William Penn's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Hanover, their record now sits at 3-4.

William Penn's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Bearcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hanover, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will William Penn continue to outrun the ball?

William Penn might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Hanover when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Bearcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
