Basketball Game Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. Spring Valley Vikings

The Sumter Gamecocks will take on the Spring Valley Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumter will be strutting in after a victory while Spring Valley will be coming in after a defeat.

Sumter took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Westwood by a score of 48-39. The win was all the more spectacular given the Gamecocks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Redhawks are ranked 18th).

Meanwhile, Spring Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Lugoff-Elgin.

Sumter's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Spring Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Sumter didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Spring Valley in their previous matchup on January 3rd, but they still walked away with a 53-48 win. Will Sumter repeat their success, or does Spring Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
