Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial Drops Season-High Score on South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Doherty Memorial). They put the hurt on the South Colonels with a sharp 14-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Highlanders have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Hannah Kursonis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Grant, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Isabella LLanos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Doherty Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Doherty Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for South, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Doherty Memorial will take on North at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South, they will challenge Worcester Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
