Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial Highlanders vs. South Colonels
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Doherty Memorial). They put the hurt on the South Colonels with a sharp 14-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Highlanders have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Hannah Kursonis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Grant, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Isabella LLanos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
