The Roncalli Royals will take on the Greenwood Woodmen at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Roncalli is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Shelbyville 7-5.
Nico Amodeo looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Luke Baker was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Will Manship was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Greenwood can bid farewell to their 11-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Beech Grove. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Woodmen have posted since April 28th.
Blayne Reitmeyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Greenwood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Grismore, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Roncalli is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 5-18.
Greenwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Roncalli hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. It's a different story for Greenwood, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Roncalli's hitters?
Roncalli took their win against Greenwood in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 19-2 score. Do the Royals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Woodmen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
