Dirigo is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They lost 17-8 to Nokomis.
Caiden Skidgell was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Skidgell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Skidgell wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Crosby, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Crosby has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Dominick Varnum was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Spruce Mountain fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Maranacook on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Black Bears by a score of 10-9.
Trent Lovewell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Eli Moffett, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Spruce Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Dirigo, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Dirigo's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Spruce Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Dirigo continue to outrun the ball?
Dirigo was able to grind out a solid win over Spruce Mountain in their previous matchup last Friday, winning 9-6. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
