Volleyball Recap: Baxter Springs Comes Up Short

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Baxter Springs and Galena have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Lions fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Baxter Springs sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 21-25, 25-19.

Sadie Miller paced Baxter Springs' offense, picking up ten kills. Miller got some help from Sam Sheffer and her 28 assists. Miller was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Galena found their leader in freshman Madison Boyes, who had 19 digs and two aces.

Baxter Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 20-9. As for Galena, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8.

Baxter Springs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Girard on the 7th. As for Galena, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Frontenac on the 7th.
