Softball Game Preview: Head-Royce Jayhawks vs. Lick-Wilmerding Tigers

Head-Royce is a perfect 9-0 against Lick-Wilmerding since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Jayhawks will head out to challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Head-Royce and St. Joseph Notre Dame had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Jayhawks fell just short of the Pilots by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The Jayhawks haven't had much luck with the Pilots recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Juno Yu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Head-Royce saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayla Davis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Lick-Wilmerding was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 16-4 to University.

Lick-Wilmerding's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Head-Royce, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Everything went Head-Royce's way against Lick-Wilmerding when the teams last played back in March, as Head-Royce made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jayhawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
