Softball Recap: Hope Christian Starts Season with Victory Against Sandia Prep

Hope Christian had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 15-4 margin over the Sandia Prep Sundevils. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Sundevils: they've now won nine in a row.

Iliana Cordova made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Siena Sturgis was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooklyn Quanz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Hope Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sandia Prep only managed nine hits.

Sandia Prep is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hope Christian beat Sandia Prep by a score of 15-3 later that day.
