Softball Game Preview: Sweetwater Wildcats vs. University School Buccaneers

The Sweetwater Wildcats will take on the University School Buccaneers at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sweetwater has nine straight victories, University School has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sweetwater barely beat Copper Basin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Sweetwater's pitcher stepped up to hand Copper Basin a 10-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Wildcats have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sadie Scott made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Lillian Woodruff was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Baylee Bohrer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sweetwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Copper Basin only posted an OBP of .000.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between University School and Hampton, and Hampton kept the tradition alive. University School fell just short of Hampton by a score of 10-9 on Friday. One positive for the Buccaneers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Sweetwater pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for University School, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
