League recap: Westford Academy rises, Newton South falls in league standings

Dual County league recap: 5/29/12

Westford Academy made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from seventh to fifth place in the league thanks to a 2-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Newton South fell hardest in the standings, dropping from fourth all the way to seventh place after going 1-4 in the past week. Lincoln-Sudbury (17-6, 13-4) is the No. 1 team in Dual County.

The league's longest active winning streak belongs to Acton-Boxborough (14-8, 11-5), undefeated over its last four games. Three of those wins came in the past week, including a 4-2 victory over Chelmsford.

Waltham's pitching staff dominated this week, allowing only 18 hits and nine walks, both of which led the league. The Hawks have given up a mere 136 hits on the year, while striking out 130 opposing hitters. Joe Dwyer is the leader in that category with 39 Ks on the season.

Waltham's Dwyer led the league with six hits this week. His 24 hits for the year are third in the league, and he boasts a .414 batting average.
