Softball Game Preview: Wellborn Panthers vs. Randolph County Tigers

Wellborn hasn't had much luck against Randolph County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will head out to square off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

It was a proper cat-fight when Wellborn took on Saks on Wednesday. The Panthers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Meanwhile, Randolph County suffered their closest defeat since May 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Ranburne by a score of 10-8. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Gracie Huckeba made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bryer Thompson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Randolph County's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Wellborn, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Wellborn couldn't quite finish off Randolph County in their previous meeting back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
