The Casteel Colts will square off against the Queen Creek Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Casteel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Casteel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Hamilton, who was ranked second at the time (Casteel was ranked fourth). The Colts wound up with the same score they had in their last game (9-5), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Casteel saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Russell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Jose Bingochea was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Queen Creek came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Jaguars as they made off with a 14-6 victory.
Tait Reynolds and Jet Berry did most of the damage at the plate: Reynolds got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Berry went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Reynolds has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alex Gamboa, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Queen Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Queen Creek pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Casteel, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Casteel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Queen Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
