Baseball Recap: Pius X Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Pius X had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks. The Thunderbolts have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the SkyHawks, too.

Tanner Charf tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Pius X is 2-1 when Charf allows two or fewer earned runs, but 9-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Kai Vanis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Pius X: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Aschwege, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Pius X's win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Skutt Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 20-5.

Looking ahead, Pius X will venture away from home to face off against Fremont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Skutt Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
