Basketball Game Preview: El Campo Ricebirds vs. Needville Bluejays

El Campo and Needville are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The El Campo Ricebirds will host the Needville Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, El Campo took a blow against Wharton, falling 73-40. The Ricebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Needville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Sweeny out 53-50.

El Campo better focus on containing James Schreck and Jaydon Ortiz as the pair were huge in Needville's win. Schreck posted 17 points and five steals, while Ortiz went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Schreck a new career-high in steals. Jamarkus Jack was another key player, putting up no points in addition to seven assists, six steals, and five boards.

Needville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season. As for El Campo, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.

El Campo came out on top in a nail-biter against Needville in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 46-43. Will El Campo repeat their success, or does Needville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
