Pitman and Modesto are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Pitman Pride will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Modesto Panthers at 3:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Pitman is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Riverbank on Saturday as Pitman made off with a 15-4 victory. With that win, the Pride brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Kaylee Fuller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fuller was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Pitman let Ivy Butler and Peyton Avena run wild. Butler scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Avena went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Avena has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Pulido, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Pitman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Modesto, as they earned their first road win of the season. They blew past Downey 22-4 on Tuesday. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
Alyssa Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Sonia Padilla was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Luton, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
The victory got Pitman back to even at 3-3. As for Modesto, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pitman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Modesto struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
