Baseball Recap: Hiawatha Red Hawks vs. Nemaha Central Thunder
Hiawatha extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-13-1 in the process. They came up short against the Nemaha Central Thunder, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Monday.
Hiawatha saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aden Grathwohl, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Nemaha Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8. Considering they have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Nemaha Central's side, they got a great performance from Kamden Schmitz as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Caleb Hynek was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Olberding, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hiawatha is set to challenge their familiar foe Rossville on Thursday. Meanwhile, Nemaha Central will face off against rival Jefferson West on Thursday.
