Softball Recap: Crater Comets vs. Canby Cougars
Crater came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Canby Cougars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-1. That's more bragging rights for Crater, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
For Canby's part, Allison Hayzlett was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Hayzlett has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Hayzlett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Madison Bigej made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Crater is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. As for Canby, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-14.
Crater will head out on the road to face off against Silverton on Friday. Silverton is on a 16-game streak of home wins, Crater a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Canby does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
