Softball Game Preview: Sweetwater Mustangs vs. Grape Creek Eagles

The Sweetwater Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Grape Creek Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sweetwater's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

If Sweetwater beats Grape Creek with 12 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Lubbock Christian on Tuesday. Sweetwater's win was all the more impressive since the Eagles were averaging only four runs allowed on the season.

Alexis Heredia-Gonzales was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Lexi Maestas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Sweetwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Grape Creek came up short against San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy, falling 18-2. The loss continues a trend for Grape Creek in their meetings with San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy: they've now lost six in a row.

Grape Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Sweetwater, their victory bumped their record up to 10-20.

Sweetwater got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Grape Creek by a conclusive 18-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
